Class Mission: To Explore the many aspects of theatre and performance in an endeavor to discover our own unique talents, abilities and ultimately the importance of Drama in our culture, our community and ourselves.

 

Class expectations: Students are expected to attend class, on time and to be prepared each day of class. Pencil and paper are required for journal activities and comfortable clothes for theatre games. Most important is a positive attitude and a willingness to participate.

See: class Rules for code of conduct in classroom. Ms. Johnson will utilize in class management of warning & time out and most importantly parent notification of behavior issues.

 

Syllabus:

For both Drama I and Explorer Wheel we will utilize the Exploring Theatre textbook by Glencoe.

Over the semester topics and subjects will include but not be limited to:

  • Getting Started. Theatre Origin & History from ancient times Greek Theatre, Roman Theatre, and middle Ages through current times.

  • Building Your Acting Skills though improvisation, characterization.

  • Self-Identify and Confidence

  • Producing & Appreciating Plays

  • Creative Drama vs. Formal Drama

  • Artistic Discipline

  • Observation skills

  • Concentration skills

  • Imagination skills

  • Vocal Development

  • Improvisation

  • Characterization

  • Audition Technique

  • Theatrical Terminology

  • Acting Technique

  • Behind The Scenes

 

Our Drama Focus Students will also be working on and preparing both monologues and scenes. They are invited to audition for the district competition and also are asked to participate in a performance October 24th A Night of Scenes to showcase their hard work as actors.

Students will receive homework in class, theatrical terminology, theatre history and character analysis and also memorization of scripts. Artistic discipline is a skill that will benefit them both as performers and students.
